The Philadelphia Independence turned in a strong performance despite playing short handed. Brianna Panek, Abby Duff, and Eliza Covello scored goals, while Riya Patel and Panek were stellar in goal. Isabela Ricardo, Kayva Singh, Sara Kestenbaum, and Lily Carpinelli worked tirelessly at midfield.
A week earlier, Emily Giuliano converted a pass from Carpinelli. Covello, Josie Settembrino, Ricardo, and Patel were fearless in goal and Singh, Duff, Emma Spadea, Panek and Carley West provided strong midfield support. GIRLS 9-10
Cassidy Carroll scored both of Sweden’s goals in a 7-2 defeat to Canada. Angela Pursell and Madison Miller supplied the assists for Sweden. GIRLS 11-13
Mia Rhodes excelled in goal and scored a goal as Brazil shut out Norway, 2-0, in a tightly contested, well-played match. Brielle Samuels also scored, while Jalyn Fleming, Alexis Rhodes, and Chloe Brensinger anchored the defense. Grace Raterman, Sanjana Inamdar, Natalie Klek, and Aditi Agarkhed played strong two-way games.
China withstood a strong second-half attack in a 7-5 win over England. Gabby Bieniasz scored the game-winner off a pass from Karolina Zachor. Alexandra Covello, Karolina Zachor, and Gabby Bieniasz tallied goals thanks to assists from Simone Williams and Klara Bieniasz.
Paraguay tied Uraguay 1-1 and Ghana 4-4 thanks to offensive support from Eric Broadway, Tyler Markert and Jason Bravo. Defensive support came from Edward Ott, Kyle Caccavale and Shamyl Fazle, while Mark Immordino, Jesse Steele, Shamyle Fazle, Ryan Siddique, Shaurya Sood and Daniel Ziemlinski rounded out the team effort. The Houston Dynamo continued its strong play behind sharp passing from Gavin Ireland and Nicholas Tonelli. Andrew Lynch, Luke Longo, Ryan Willever, Carlos Espinoza, Nate Duff and Noah Lehrfeld all scored goals, while Garrett Durso-Finley, Owen Drake, Joshua Hundley, Yash Singh and Zubin Gu displayed strong support through the midfield and on defense. Chelsea received tremendous efforts from Robert Bridges, Zachary Hoarn, Jack Kosoff, Adam Levinsky and Matt Stout over a successful weekend. BOYS 9-10
England outlasted Japan, 8-3, behind four Aidan Wilson goals. Daniel Nance scored twice and David Merlo and Teddy Gutman added one goal apiece for England. Justin Featherston and Matt Caccavalle excelled in goal behind defenders Hector Merlo and Mehadi Raza. For Japan, Harshal Nawade, William Castranova, Akshith Narahari, Seamus Meagher and Russell Knab played strong defense, while Nash Baria, Russell Knab, Neo Mathieu Maralit and Harshith Tenepali hustled all game. Cole Hamer, Chase Panfili, and Sal Rego tallied Japan’s goals. BOYS 11-13
Ghana and Paraguay played to a 4-4 tie as Ghana rallied from a 3-0 deficit to get consecutive goals from Nicholas Peist, Anthony Moore and two by Michael Drap. Despite strong goaltending by Matthew Kim, Ghana could not prevent Paraguay from tying the game.
Matthew Gorski’s two goals helped Spain to a 4-1 win over Uruguay. Dylan Weisinger and Dino Panfili also found the back of the net, while Sam Butera and Sebastian Fleurmont set up Brian Callejas for Uruguay’s goal. Spain’s Patrick and Michael Marsh supplied offensive support while defensive energy came from Adam Gershen, Jack Stinton, Juan Logan and Nick Diefenbach. Atticus Rego created several scoring opportunities up front. Rithvik Nair contributed another stellar goalkeeping outing in the win.
