Healy, Brown lift Storm to win over Bloomfield

Goals by Lyle Healey and JP Brown helped the Hopewell Valley U13 Storm travel soccer team to its first win of the season, 2-1, over Bloomfield. Brian Aker and Sam Martorana had assists, while Lyle Healey and JP Brown were strong in goal and Ben Havens was outstanding in the midfield.
The U9 Thunder suffered a 3-1 loss to the Lawrenceville Sharks as Nasim Amer had the team’s lone goal on a penalty kick, which temporarily tied the game until the Sharks scored twice in the fourth quarter. Alek Michelson, Deon Kraft, Tommy Mollis, Maddie Schrader, Matthew Immordino and Sean Concannon applied offensive pressure, while goalies George Burditt and Matthew Holmes made multiple saves. During the second half, Jon-Henri Marlow, Spencer Bell, Eric Zhu and Rafi Moldovsky provided rock-solid defense.
The U-10 Comets fell to the Mountainside Mustangs, 6-2, despite goals by Lucas Fesmire and Sean Dolan. Zach Fedor and Wilson Daniels had assists, goalies Barrett Roman and Jimmy Waltman each had three saves, Luke Tartaglia had some near misses, while Eric Goldberg, Evan Bradley, Ryan Kinney and Patrick Mormile hustled on offense and Ivan Sotos hung tough at sweeper.
Allie Magas scored the game’s only goal as the U10 Sandstorm defeated the Central NJ Silver Bullets, 1-0. A balanced effort was led by Caroline Herbert, Erin Murphy and Meggy Wiley on defense and Ava Tillman, Brooke Long and Molly O’Brien offensively. Sarah Cleveland and Carolyn McLaughlin also contributed, while Riley Felsher, Shibani Shah and Sarah Angle notched the shutout in the nets.
The U11 Galaxy took a 2-1 win over the Somerset Hills Red Bulls as Max Wills scored two second-half goals. Nicholas Psomaras, Joshua Breese, Andy Blake, Adam Oscislawski, Donald Buglino and Ryan Pfau played strong defense, while Azad Aghababian, Ty Cook, Coby Auslander, Emilio Perez-Gerus and Daniel Blumenthal worked hard in the midfield. Donovan Kazakoff was tough in goal and Conner Murphy made a big play to set up Wills’ second goal late in the game.
A goal by Kelli Martin gave the U11 Dust Devils a 1-1 tie with the unbeaten Maplewood Cougar Fire. Potential game-winning shots by Alexis Butcavage and Nicoletta Sacchi, were all saved by the Fire’s goalie. Sarah Ouslander and Sarah Griffen shared the Dust Devils goalkeeping duties.
The U12 Cosmos took a 1-0 victory over their namesake, the East Brunswick Cosmos, as Jason Engongore scored the game’s lone goal off a pass from Jack Amaral. Ryne Blagg and Amaral applied offensive pressure along with Duncan O’Connor and Sean O’Brien. Solid defense came from Justin Cooke and Graeme Deana-Roga. Spencer Brost and Hunter Martel won numerous balls at midfield while Alex Tillman and Aditya Sadhu supplied physical play and goalies Bobby Dorsett and Michael Storton had the shutout.
The U12 Supernova dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to the Branchburg United despite playing a strong game. The United scored off a rebound on a saved penalty kick with five minutes remaining.
