The mornings are crisp, the daylight hours diminishing, and, once again, November is around the corner.
Whether you follow national, state, county or only local politics, it is hard to escape some aspect of the upcoming elections.
I am echoing my confident endorsement of Dan Mulligan as I did last year. Dan focuses on the details and has the ability to not only see the short-term consequence to a decision, but always considers the long-term impact.
Recently, Gov. Christie mentioned the next group of issues he plans to tackle. COAH was at the top. Dan is well versed on this controversial mandate and will be your voice from the local level at discussions. Cranbury being a small town would be greatly impacted.
The second local candidate I eagerly endorse is Art Hasselbach. Not only is Art knowledgeable on COAH, past and present, he understands the future impact. If elected, Art would have the most years experience on the Cranbury Township Committee.
You must admit, you always know where you stand with Art, a refreshing attribute for a public servant. In listening to Art recall how decisions were made years ago by the committee, when he served, it is a desired format: common sense, fairness and mutual respect.
Both Dan and Art are extending their hand, heart and decision making process to serve all Cranbury residents. Both men are grounded, fair and will take care of Cranbury’s business while we take care of our own.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the solid candidates in Middlesex County, Line A, this year. All seven candidates have been to Cranbury throughout the year. In freeholder candidates Frank, Rickards and Rosenthal, we have a management and security expert, young, energetic attorney and a successful businessman, respectfully.
Keith Hackett running for sheriff has pertinent law enforcement credentials, and Harold Kane has a plan to bring the clerk’s office into the technological present and reform the antiquated inefficiencies.
Also, in the 14th District, Sen. Tom Goodwin is working hard to keep the seat previously held by Sen. Bill Baroni. He also has a commonsense approach and in his short term serving has truly represented his constituent’s voices.
Lastly, Scott Sipprelle wants to represent us in the U.S. Congress.
Ask yourself if you currently feel represented? If your needs have been met? If your constitutional rights have been number one?
We need a clearer, louder voice representing our concerns in the 12th Congressional District. I vote to give Scott Sipprelle the megaphone.
Get involved. Make a difference. This is your chance. Vote!

Goodwin doesn’t stand by women
To the editor:
I am truly incensed Sen. Tom Goodwin has chosen conservative party politics over the welfare of women in our state.
Just recently the state Senate held a vote to override the governor’s veto and restore $7.5 million in women’s health-care funding; money that would go to preventive care for mammograms, cancer screenings, pregnancy tests, prenatal care and diabetes and anemia screenings.
Last year, this money helped to treat hundreds of thousands of New Jersey’s men and women.
Sen. Goodwin claims to be an independent voice. But his actions speak louder than his words.
As women throughout the 14th district and the state demanded he stand up to his party and vote to protect their essential right to good health, Sen. Goodwin voted straight down the party line.
And with those two votes, Sen. Goodwin clearly proved he does not stand by the women of New Jersey.
For a true leader, who is always on our side, not the side of party bosses, vote Linda Greenstein on Nov. 2.

Board deserves ‘vigorous defense’
To the editor:
In last Friday’s Cranbury Press, you reported that Cranbury Brickyard LLC, the company that applied to build 2.8 million square feet of warehouse space on the former Unexcelled Chemical Corporation property, is suing the Cranbury Township Planning Board.
The Planning Board approved the project but rejected four design waivers.
The Planning Board extended every courtesy to this applicant, including scheduling a special meeting in an effort to reach a decision more quickly.
Cranbury has ordinances and design rules for a reason. Cranbury Brickyard knew of our design rules and ordinances, including the one that prohibits bringing in fill.
We welcome businesses into our community, but only if they abide by our laws. We can’t allow this applicant to use the courts to run roughshod over Cranbury.
The Planning Board deserves a vigorous defense against this frivolous suit.

Doing same thing over is insanity
To the editor:
We need Scott Sipprelle to replace Rush Holt.
Holt has been in office for 12 years, and what are the results?
How about a government that spends $7 million a minute?
How about a national debt of $13 trillion?
How about a government of elites earning 50 percent more than the people who pay them?
How about a trillion dollars stimulus program that stimulated nothing except the growth of government?
How about a health-care bill that controls your life rather than your health?
How about a Congress absolutely controlled by Democrats leaving town without a budget or appropriations bills or addressing the massive tax increases scheduled to occur in three short months?
As we approach this year’s election, remember that votes have consequences. The voters of the 12th District have voted for Rush Holt for six elections.
In turn, Rush Holt has consistently voted for the policies and budgets that made this dysfunctional government possible.
Scott Sipprelle offers an end to this irresponsible behavior by Congress. His common sense approach to reining in our out-of-control government requires throwing out the people that now control the process.
It appears that voters across the nation are preparing to do just that. Inform yourself at Scott’s website, www.supportscott2010.com and join in restoring sanity in our government.
Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result. Reelecting Rush Holt and expecting smaller government and fiscal responsibility is insane.
