By Bettie Linke
Local Monroe Township author Bettie Linke announces the recent publication of THAT’S THE SPIRIT, a non-fiction release published by Xlibris Corporation.
A long time resident of Monroe Township, formally of Jamesburg, author, Bettie Linke has put her nostalgic collection of works into an anthology. Her biography shows her creativity and storytelling ability to share life and growing up in Jamesburg, long before the New Jersey Turnpike or Exit 8A was a twinkle in anyone’s eye. She has put a touch of humor in down-home living back on the map beginning as early as the 1930’s.
Her chapters show what you did and how you coped in a tightly knit family homestead during the war era of the early 40’s, and the simplistic living approaching the fantastic 50’s.
Her embellishments in the Holiday Section introduce the Christmas Mouse and Mr. Snowman. Stories about the Mr. and the Lady of the House, year after year preparing for the month of December, add a touch of humor for today’s fast pace living. Always a surprise is the Norwegian accent of family members and values that still hold true.
An Inspiration Section brings on personal thoughts of the writer and just maybe the reader will be inclined to read them more than once.
Descriptions and the feel of Jamesburg stand out not only for those that remember, but those new to the area that enjoys humor mixed with local history.
Many of the author’s essays will make the reader understand her message in these pieces about simple living and simple giving.
The invitation to read, love and enjoy life is the main reason for Bettie Linke’s pursuit to self publish with Xlibris and share the past with all generations. The author has published articles and stories in magazines and newspapers for over two decades. Included in the edition are eight published pieces, even one for the baseball enthusiasts, which have given her supporters the light humor they deserve.

There is seldom an unhappy page of back-to-basics for the avid reader, and as for those that have little time to read, the best surprise after completing the short chapters of THAT’S THE SPIRIT, recalling the past proves nostalgia is worth the saving, worth the surprise.
