SCT soccer
The Montgomery High girls soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the Somerset County Tournament with a 3-0 win over Somerville on Saturday. The Cougars will face top-seeded Pingry in the semifinals. Catrina Atanda, Colby Ciaroicca and Ally Prosinski scored goals for Montgomery, which also received two assists from Jessi Goldman.
The Montgomery boys were eliminated from the SCT with a 3-1 loss to Bernards. Matt Paftinos scored with an assist from Matt Wiltse for the Cougars.
SCT field hockey
The third-seeded Montgomery High field hockey team lost, 3-2, in overtime to second-seeded Bernards in the Somerset County Tournament semifinals on Saturday. It was the farthest the Cougars had ever advanced in the SCT.
MHS freshman Philly Lumsden’s goal with 16 minutes left in regulation forced overtime. Alison Caligure scored in the second half as well for the Cougars, who fell to 9-5-1.
Graham Alig
The West Windsor-Plainsboro High graduate finished 13th at the recent Steamtown Marathon. Alig, a Princeton resident, covered the 26.2 miles in 2:44:33, a pace of 6:17 per mile. Alig was the top male finisher in the 35-39 age group. Luke Watson of State College, Pa., was the overall winner in 2:16:41.
Belle Mead resident Paige MacPherson ran 3:24:15 for third among masters women. The 51-year-old averaged 7:48 per mile.
COLLEGE
Dan D’Agostino
The Montgomery High School graduate won his singles match against Andriy Kulak as the Loyola University men’s tennis team defeated Fordham, 7-1, on the final day of the Lehigh Invitational on Sunday. A senior, he and Jamie Russo also won their doubles match in a 3-1 win over Fordham in the doubles portion of the invitational.
D’Agostino led the Greyhounds in singles wins as a sophomore with 15 and has twice in his career had the most doubles wins on the team. He was named to the MAAC All-Academic team last year.
Leland Richardson
The West Windsor-Plainsboro High South graduate teamed with Edgars Rauza as the Lehigh University men’s tennis team swept the doubles match with Loyola at the Lehigh Invitational on Saturday. Richardson, a junior, and Rauza were also part of a 3-1 doubles win over Delaware.
In his first two years at Lehigh, Richardson has played second and third singles. He has posted a 10-11 doubles record through two seasons.
Jory Johnson
The Hun School graduate has played in five games for the University of Connecticut football team. A redshirt sophomore at outside linebacker, Johnson has made seven tackles including two for losses. He also has one interception.
Johnson played in 12 games last year and started against Louisville and Rutgers. The Huskies are 3-3 going into this Saturday’s game against Louisville.
Ryan Lupo
The West Windsor-Plainsboro High South graduate was recently named the NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 167 yards and two touchdowns to help Williams College to a win over Bowdoin.
In four games Lupo has rushed for 349 yards and three touchdowns to help the Ephs to a 4-0 start. He has also caught five passes this season. He ran 20 times for 78 yards in a 41-17 win over Middlebury on Saturday.
