County clerk delivers on campaign promises

By: centraljersey.com
As a taxpayer and resident of Mercer County, I applaud Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello for her efforts during her first term in office. I have always found the county clerk and her staff to be professional and responsive.
She instituted three changes that have been very helpful and convenient for our company and our colleagues: the online recording search and retrieval, e-filing of mortgage documents and expanded hours for passport services.
She has delivered on all her promises and that is why I encourage all Mercer County residents to vote to re-elect Paula Sollami Covello as Mercer County Clerk. We need continued good government at work.

Sipprelle shows his understanding of economy
To the editor:
The media has been prefacing references to Scott Sipprelle as a "Princeton venture capitalist" or as an individual "who spent the bulk of his career building a fortune for himself."
Meant as a negative labeling, if considered, it is actually an attribute to be an investor and it is erroneous to assume Mr. Sipprelle’s financial success has been solely for self interests. Being a venture capitalist, or being an angel investor, is an affirmation of Mr. Sipprelle’s astuteness in understanding the need for seed money in promoting research, spurring innovative start up enterprises, and underwriting technology advances. He is versed in "the economic value of venture capital to national and global economies."
And his ensuing financial abundance does not preclude his attainment of a sound moral and spiritual character, and a realization that money can be used for a positive impact on society. In fact, Mr. Sipprelle pledges to "donate his congressional pay to local charities that stress independence from government, not dependence on it" – a statement that underscores his belief that the American way is for individuals to strive for self-reliance, and that charity, while giving basic sustenance, is to also help those in need to become self-supporting, to help the unemployed secure work.
To me, Scott Sipprelle is "a different kind of candidate" with "a plan to make America work again."

Charter school support out of touch with taxpayer
To the editor:
According to recent polls over 60 percent of Americans feel the country is on wrong track and over 70 percent of people disapprove of the way Congress has done its job. Is this dissatisfaction because what elected representatives say during a campaign and what they do after election are completely opposite to each other?
In the upcoming election, it is important to compare words of Congressman Rush Holt with his actions. One important issue where the words and actions of Mr. Holt don’t match is the proposed Princeton International Academy Charter School (PIACS), an issue that impacts every taxpayer in Princeton, West Windsor, Plainsboro and South Brunswick.
The founders of PIACS have often quoted Mr. Holt in justifying their charter school. PIACS will cost the taxpayers in these townships over $2 million at a time when the traditional public schools are forced to lay off teachers and eliminate programs. Mr. Holt has introduced federal legislation known as HR6036: The Excellence and Innovation in Language Learning Act, which will make it easier to start schools such as PIACS. Mr. Holt’s HR 6036 has only two other sponsors in addition to Mr. Holt.
This is another example of elected officials becoming out of touch with the average taxpayer and ignoring the impact of the laws they pass. Although Mr. Holt claims to be a supporter of public schools, his actions will damage the traditional public schools in greater Princeton area at a very difficult economic time.
What is even more ironic is that Mr. Holt opposes charter schools for the District of Columbia where alternatives to the traditional public schools are truly needed while proposing charter schools in the Princeton region where they are a total waste of taxpayer dollars? After his 12 years in Congress it is time to stop taking Mr. Holt at his words and instead hold him accountable for his actions.
