Ham supper

Flea market set
Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church will hold a flea market on Oct. 23 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. to raise funds for a roofing project. Due to age and storm damage, the church needs a new roof. A 10-foot by 10-foot space costs $10. Each vendor must provide his/her own tables and chairs. All spaces are outside. A bake sale also will be held. The rain date is Oct. 30. Roast beef dinner
On Oct. 24 from noon-5 p.m., the Stockton Fire Company, Mill Street, will hold a dinner of roast beef, mashed potatoes, vegetable, rolls, desert and beverage. Attention: Lambertville
Starting the week of Oct. 26, the Public Works Department will begin the annual leaf collection. The second pick up will begin on Nov. 9. The third pick up will begin on Nov. 23. In the city, residents may bag leaves and place them at the normal garbage pickup place. Connaught Hill, Cottage Hill and Music Mountain residents may sweep them to the curb and the leaf vacuum will pick them up. The street sweeper will operate (weather permitting and excluding city holidays) through Dec. 10.
Share the warmth
The Community Kitchen of Centenary UMC is conducting its "Share the Warmth" coat and winter clothing drive. Donations may be brought to Community Kitchen meals or deposited in the drop box in front of the church located at 108 N. Union St., Lambertville.
‘Trial of the Century’
"The Trial of the Century" will be presented weekends through Oct. 24. Shows are at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. General admission tickets are $30. Although most jury seats are sold out, a few still remain at $45. A dinner package in conjunction with Bistro 161 on Main Street is available for an additional $28. Country music
WDVR’s long-running, live, country music show has returned to its original home, the former Brethren Church of Sergeantsville, now The Family Life Center, 522 Rosemont-Ringoes Road, Sergeantsville. The next show will be held on Oct. 23 from 6-8 p.m. Donation is $12. No reservations required.
Concert at Mt. Airy
The Hunterdon Harmonizers will present a concert at the Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. Two quartets from the Harmonizers, "Untamed" and "Chordhouse Steps" will sing Barbershop harmony. Refreshments will follow. Tickets will be available at the door or from church members. Donation $10. The church is located in the village of Mt. Airy, 3 miles north of Lambertville, off Route 179.
Upmeyer concerts
The Friends of Locktown Stone Church will present the Mimi Conklin Upmeyer Concert series at the old stone church, built in 1819 and located in Delaware Township. Concerts start at 4 p.m. and last approximately one hour. They are: Oct. 24, Carol Thompson, Celtic Harp; Nov. 7, Due Solisti : Dr. Kathleen Scheide (harpsichord) and Zofie Volnikova (flute). Art League meets
Larry Chestnut is the featured speaker for the New Hope Art League meeting Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Solebury Friends Meetinghouse, 2680 N. Sugan Road. Mr. Chestnut is an oil painter, specializing in "premier coup painting" (inspired by the scene directly in front of the artist and completed in one sitting without later revisions). He combines this with plein air painting to achieve spontaneity. His work is currently in the Phillips Mill Juried Show. The meeting is free and open to the public. Canal Walks
The Friends of the Delaware Canal has embarked on its 23rd annual Canal Walk. Each Saturday, a different section of the canal is explored, ending at Riverfront Park in Bristol Borough on Oct. 30. For the first time in six years, the Friends will be able to undertake its traditional 58.9-mile walk. The sections of the canal damaged by the floods of 2004, 2005 and 2006 are repaired, and the full towpath trail is open for hiking and biking. The walk will give hikers the opportunity to learn about the area’s past and future while taking in the autumn scenery of the canal and Delaware River corridor.
Susan Taylor, executive director of the Friends, along with local history and conservation authorities, will tell about the Delaware Canal where mule-drawn boats once transported coal and other goods. They also will point out many other sites of historic and environmental significance along the route.
The remaining segments of the walk are: Oct. 23 – Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve to the Black Rock Road picnic area in Yardley; Oct. 30 – Black Rock Road picnic Area to Riverfront Park adjacent to Mill Street in Bristol Borough. The walks begin at 9 a.m. each Saturday. Participants are invited to walk any or all of the Saturdays. Bring a light lunch and beverage each day. Transportation back to the starting point will be accomplished by carpooling.

‘Brunch ‘n Learn’
Hunterdon County Division of Senior, Disabilities & Veteran Services will present the last "Brunch ‘n Learn" for 2010. The topic is "Maximize your Mind: Aging and your Brain." Basketball registration
Lambertville Basketball Association registration is open for the upcoming season. The LBA is a recreational league open to boys and girls in grades one-six. The league emphasizes player development, as well as, promotes sportsmanship and fun. The LBA is for all levels of players, even those who never played basketball before. Car show Nov. 7
The 20th annual Kiwanis Fall Roll Out, a car show featuring cars no newer than 1990, including many from the Lambertville area, will be held Nov. 7 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in Riegelsville, Pa. The show will be held, rain or shine, at the ball field off Route 611. There is no entry or registration fee for car owners, however, a donation is appreciated. The first 475 cars receive dash plaques. Spectators are asked for a $4 donation. Trophies will be awarded in several categories. Bronx Zoo trip
The Lambertville-New Hope Rotary Club is sponsoring a bus trip to the Bronx Zoo on Nov. 13. The cost is $65 per person and includes transportation, general admission to the zoo and special admission to the zoo’s Gorilla Congo exhibit. A light breakfast of coffee, juice and rolls will be served "al fresco" before boarding the bus. The trip will take place rain or shine. The bus departs from the Diamond Silver parking lot, North Main Street at Arnett Avenue, Lambertville, at 9:30 a.m. sharp. Reservations must be made in advance by contacting Bill Buchanan at 397-0030 before Nov. 1. All proceeds from this event will benefit local emergency services.
Attention: dog owners
Lambertville has an ordinance that requires all dogs to be on a lease and requires the owner of a dog to clean up its excreta. Public property includes sidewalks, parks and playgrounds, public streets and the curb. When going for a walk in the park or on any public street, remember to have a dog on a leash and be prepared to clean up. The fine for the first offense is $25 to $100. The second offense is $75 to $150, and the third offense is $150 to $500.
Animal Alliance spaying and neutering
Planned Pethood, a spaying and neutering clinic, is open every Friday and Sunday. Pricing is: All dogs regardless of size or gender, $125; female cats, $75; and male cats, $55. There are no extra charges for pregnancy or retained testicles, and no fees are added to the surgery price. All vaccines are $20, and there is no office visit charge. Choral group holds auditions
The Bucks County Choral Society, under the direction of Artistic Director Thomas Lloyd, is holding auditions for new singers for the coming season. There are openings in all sections for singers with prior choral experience and good music reading skills. Repertoire for the coming 38th anniversary season will include Bach’s "St. Matthew Passion;" "Down The Road-Four Settings of Langston Hughes," a newly commissioned work by Ricky Ian Gordon; Aaron Copland’s "In the Beginning;" and a program of opera choruses with soloists from the Academy of Vocal Arts. Delaware Township Girl Scout Troop 1235 members are collecting donations for Animal Alliance dog rescue as part of their Bronze Award project.
