Award winning economist and author, Paul Krugman, will deliver a timely and poignant lecture on Sunday, Oct. 31, starting at 3 p.m. at the Johnson Education Center located off Rosedale Road in Princeton. The event is being sponsored by the Paul Robeson House Committee as a fundraiser. Reserved seats for the event are $50.
Dr. Krugman is a professor of economics and international affairs at Princeton University, an op-ed columnist for The New York Times, and the recipient of the 2008 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. Described by the Washington Monthly as “the most important columnist in America,” Dr. Krugman’s lecture, “The Election and the Economy,” will provide authoritative and insightful comments on the current domestic and world economic situation, and its impact on the upcoming elections.
The Paul Robeson House, located at the corner of Witherspoon and Green streets, was recently repurchased by Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church, and has been part of Princeton’s history for over 100 years. It was the church manse when the Rev. William Drew Robeson served as the church’s pastor from 1889 to 1910. His son, Paul Robeson, was born there on April 9, 1898. Over the years, it has served as the first residence for many African Americans who came to work and settle in the neighborhood.
”The acquisition of the Paul Robeson House will allow us to continue our long legacy of social activism and service in the community,” said Benjamin Colbert, chair of the Robeson Committee. “The house will be a neighborhood resource with special attention to programs for youth, immigration issues, neighborhood development, social services and civil rights. We are fortunate to have Professor Krugman’s support.”
Those who want to attend the lecture should make advance reservations. For more information and reservations, contact the Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church office at (609) 924-1666 or [email protected].
