As residents throughout the community begin approaching retirement, one local group is working to ensure they know where to look for help after reaching their golden years.
The Aging in Place Partnership, a group with the goal of establishing South Brunswick as a model community for seniors to maintain their independence, will hold a forum next month to discuss issues confronting seniors from transportation to quality of life issues.
”This will be our third annual forum and will focus on a number of topics with a focus on quality of life issues,” said AIPP founder Jacque Rubel. “This is a way to bring people together across generations and will allow them to gather important information that is so important in planning for the future.”
The AIPP began when Ms. Rubel started meeting with local officials to start assembling local resources in order to get the group moving forward. Ms. Rubel said the group focuses on the everyday challenges less active seniors face.
”It’s never too early to start thinking ahead,” Ms. Rubel said. “This forum will offer people a chance to learn how they can plan ahead and meet people who can help them along the way.”
The forum will include displays, demonstrations, panel presentations, roundtable discussions and exhibits that explore housing options, health and wellness resources, home maintenance, quality of life and access to transportation.
The family event also will feature food and prizes.
The AIPP forum, “Exploring Options: A Day of Discovery,” is scheduled for Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the South Brunswick Senior Center at 540 Ridge Road in Monmouth Junction. The event is free, but reservations are required for the complementary lunch.
