EAST WINDSOR – East Windsor is getting some state federal help.
Mayor Janice S. Mironov announced earlier this week that East Windsor was awarded a $24,000 grant from the Federal Highway Administration and the New Jersey Department of Environmental to build construct a trail in Disbrow Hill Park, located on Disbrow Hill Road across from Etra Lake Park.
A portion of the 57 acre Disbrow Hill Road open space property is being developed for a state/county grant-funded playing fields facility consisting of softball fields and soccer/lacrosse fields. The Township submitted a grant application in December 2009 under the Recreational Trails Program, and was notified of the award this month by the DEP.
"We are grateful to receive this grant which will enable the township to provide another significant recreational amenity for our residents," Mayor Mironov said.
The proposed new recreational trail, which will be approximately eight feet wide, will begin at the entrance of Etra Lake Park with the construction of a crosswalk, providing access to two existing Etra Lake Park trails, a two mile perimeter trail and a pathway to Twin Rivers. The new pathway winds through the Disbrow Hill playing fields, connecting to a 120-acre Township-owned open space parcel along the southern border. Grant funds will be used to purchase the trail surface material, signage and benches. Construction of the new trail is expected to commence in mid-2011.
