Hillsborough
Chapter A
Hillsborough Senior Citizens Chapter A meets the first Thursday of each month at 12:30 p.m. in the municipal building. We are open to new members. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. giving you time to review the activities we offer, and to signup for those that appeal to you, plus allow you the time to visit with your friends. Coffee and donuts are served at the end of the meeting. Dick Meier is president and you can call him at 359-6948.
One Spring morning an Indian came into the village. He must have been a compassionate soul for he sent Squanto who showed the colonists how to fish and plant corn with a fish in each hill of corn, plus pumpkins and beans. Under his direction things greatly improved – so much so that the governor declared a celebration, the first Thanksgiving. Gov. Bradford was elected governor for 30 years. Toward the end of his life he wrote that people were forgetting the sharing and cared more for themselves.
This must seem like stale stuff to us now since we have freedom, but in those times a person who had no money was no more than a slave to the master or duke he worked for. At any time what he had could be taken from him and if the duke decided to make war the poor peasant was conscripted, no fair laws then. There was a different set of rules for women. They were sent to serve in the mansion in the meanest of ways and woe to them if they were pretty. They were used and abused and when they were with child they were discarded as sluts or wanton women. Their families did not want them back. You have to read history to appreciate our freedom.
We had a nice turnout for our Anniversary Celebration of our Senior Room. The sheet cakes were grand, one was filled with chocolate mousse and the other with a pudding and strawberries. These cakes were almost four-inches in height and beautifully decorated. The mayor spoke to us briefly.
Another great turnout for our member appreciation luncheon. Lots of good food toped with ice cream. Then came the cash Bingo games. We are usually a very noisy bunch, but there was silence while we concentrated on our boards. I wasn’t a winner of money but a winner all the same enjoying the camaraderie.
We’ll have election of officers at our next meeting so be sure to come and make your choice known.

Chaper B
The next meeting for Chapter B members will be on Nov. 10. Normally Chapter B meets on the second Thursday of the month but November’s meeting was changed to Wednesday because the municipal building will be closed on the 11th due to Veterans’ Day. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and the meeting will start at 12:30 p.m.
Nominations of officers will take place at this meeting. We ask all our members to come prepared to assist with this process. Vacancies for president, vice president and recording secretary exist. If you plan on nominating someone other than yourself for any of these positions, please be sure you have written permission from that person.
Election Day is Tuesday – our Senior Activity Room is being used as a polling place. All those who normally voted at Mary Mother of God Church should report there.
We have one more trip before our next meeting. This is an overnighter to Woodlock Pines in Pennsylvania; 41 Chapter B members and friends have signed up for this trip. Bus will leave from the Pathmark Parking Lot at 9 a.m.
