On the heels of Veterans Day, the Somerset Valley Players will be honoring veterans with a production of "The Curious Savage" at the SVP Theater at reduced ticket prices on Nov. 12-14.
"It’s for all the veterans," said U.S. Army Col. Stan Lapidow (ret.), of Hillsborough. "I think they expect to get somewhere around 100 veterans. They’re going to have a bunch come down and they’re going to give them a presentation."
The veterans range from all different ages and many of the wars throughout history. Anybody with a valid military ID can get into the show for $10, instead of the $16 the theater on Amwell Road in Hillsborough normally charges.
"(The vets are) from all different areas and conflicts," said Mr. Lapidow. "They’re from Korea, Vietnam, the first Desert Storm and Afghanistan. They’re from all over."
In addition to the reduced rates, the veterans will also get fanfare and other treats. There will be a color guard and refreshments for all that attend. Plus, half of the proceeds will go to a yet-to-be-determined charity. It’s just a way of giving back to those who gave so much for our country.
"Veterans get in for $10," said Linda Giordano, president of the Somerset Valley Players. "We’re also running, for the first time, a 50/50. Whatever proceeds that we would make net we’re going to donate it to some kind of military service, we don’t know yet. We’re trying to just honor the vets for their weekend."
The performance of "The Curious Savage" opens this Friday, Oct. 29, and runs for three weekends. Tickets are available at www.svptheatre.org, or by calling 908-369-7469.
