PennDOT District 6 has announced that construction is complete on the $517,612 transportation economic recovery project to build the New Hope Cultural Canal Walk in New Hope.
This project was funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Crews from the Marino Corporation of Skippack, Montgomery County, worked since March to build the borough-designed walkway that now connects pedestrians to the borough’s historic central business district.
The pedestrian path originates at the municipal parking facility and extends to the western bank of the Delaware Canal and on to the historic New Hope-Ivyland train station.
The new asphalt walkway is 6 feet wide and 1,078 feet long. The walkway also includes landscaping, ground-level lighting and indirect lighting of handrails and ramps.
PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major highways before heading out.
