METUCHEN — Police arrested a 31- year-old Fords man and an 18-year-old borough man last week in connection with a series of burglaries to motor vehicle and residences over the last few weeks.
The burglary and thefts occurred between Oct. 18 and Oct. 25, police said.
James J. Johnson Jr. of Fords and Andrew Weber of Metuchen were charged with seven counts of burglary, seven counts of theft, and seven counts of fraudulent use of credit cards on Oct. 29.
Police did not say how Johnson and Weber know each other.
The series of burglaries and thefts to motor vehicles, which were all left unlocked by their owners, include $232 worth of items stolen from a 2001 Volkswagen parked on Hillside Avenue at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 18, police said. Items stolen include a GPS navigational unit, two phone chargers, and $2 in change.
A 1994 Toyota that was parked on Robbins Place was reported broken into between 1 p.m. Oct. 21 and 10 a.m. Oct. 22. An EZPass was taken out of the glove compartment, according to police.
A 2005 silver Nissan Altima that was parked on New York Avenue was broken into between 6 p.m. Oct. 22 and 8 a.m. Oct. 25, police said. Two cell phone chargers valued at $60 were taken.
A wallet containing cash and credit cards, valued at $195, was reported stolen from a 2005 Ford that was parked on Spear Street between 10 p.m. Oct. 23 and 12 p.m. Oct. 24.
A tote bag containing work papers was reported stolen out of a 1998 blue Volvo that was parked at a Wakefield Drive residence between 7 p.m. Oct. 19 and 5:30 a.m. Oct. 22.
Included in the pair’s charges is the burglary and theft of a Rector Street residence. The suspects allegedly pried open a rear sliding door and stole $2,350 worth of desktop and laptop computers. This occurred between 8:20 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22, police said.
Johnson and Weber were transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick. Johnson’s bail was set at $10,000 with no 10 percent option; Weber’s bail was set at $25,000 with no 10 percent option.
