The Saw Mill Open House Art Show at Prallsville Mills has been extended to Nov. 20 from 1-4 p.m. This is an extensive and varied presentation with paintings by Fran Wilcox, Edie Sharp and Michael Mann, as well as photographs by Anthony Flamio. The Deleware River Mill Society Craft Gallery also will be represented, with a selection of items by local artists and craftspeople available for sale. Taste of Lambertville
Tickets for A Taste of Lambertville are available at the Lambertville Area Chamber of Commerce office, 59 N. Union St., and Sojourner on Bridge Street. The event is being held Nov. 19 at the banquet hall of the Rescue Squad from 6-9 p.m. Tickets are $45/person and include everything (signature dishes from Hamilton’s Grill Room, Triumph Brewing Company of New Hope, Lambertville Station, Tortuga’s Cocina, Homestead Farm Market, Baker’s Treat, The Chocolate Box, Rick’s Italian, Lambertville Trading Company, Marhaba, Bell’s Tavern, Thai Tida, Caffe Galleria, City Market, Inn of the Hawke and Cabot Creamery). Wine will be provided by Walker’s Wine & Spirits and Wonderful World of Wines with a special tasting from Unionville Vineyards. Clothing drive
The West Amwell Elementary School’s sixth grade is holding a clothing drive through Nov. 23. Take all used clothing, belts, shoes, handbags, linens and stuffed/plush animals to the West Amwell Elementary School on Route 179. All items may be left in front of the school under the awning. Package all items in plastic garbage bags use ties to close.
Pasta dinner
On Nov. 20 from 5-8 p.m. the Stockton Fire Company, Mill Street, Stockton, will hold a Pasta Dinner (with salad, garlic bread dessert and beverage), Costs are: adults $10; children 5-10m $5; under 5 free. The event will benefit Stockton Fire Company. For more information, call 397-2144.
Used bike drive
On Nov. 20 (rain or shine) from 9 a.m.-noon, Pete’s Bike & Fitness Shoppe, 105 Route 31, Flemington, will host Pedals for Progress when adults’ and children’s bikes will be collected to send to Nicaragua, Ghana, Moldova, Uganda and Guatamala. Bikes should be rust free. No trikes, but bikes with flat tires in need of some repair are accepted. The group also is collecting sewing machines in working condition. A $10 minimum donation with each bike or sewing machine is required. Bikes and donations are tax deductible. The event is sponsored by Hunterdon County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Trade card exhibit
"The Power of the Palette!" is an example of how the Industrial Revolution used artistry to grow from rags to riches by 1881, according to a Delaware River Mill Society spokesman. This collection will be on display Nov. 20 from 1-4 p.m., and by appointment throughout the winter. The John Prall Jr. House, circa 1794, is part of the Prallsville Mills Complex, and is located at 24 Risler St. (Route 29). The collection includes business trade cards from the 1800s and 1900s. Donations will be accepted, and will benefit the Delaware River Mill Society, the nonprofit organization responsible for maintenance, continued restoration and operation of the historic Prallsville Mills complex, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the center point of the Delaware River Scenic Byway (Route 29). Blood drive
A blood drive – in honor of Elizabeth "Bethie" Hoye, a 5-year-oldfrom Chester currently receiving treatment for Leukemia – will be held at Hunterdon Medical Center on Nov. 23 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. All blood donated will benefit patients at Hunterdon Medical Center. Blanket Gift Giveaway slated
The Native American Alliance of Bucks County (NAABC) is hosting a Native American Blanket Gift Giveaway on Dec. 11 from 5-7 p.m. at Jackson House on the property of Buckingham Friends School, 5854 York Road, Lahaska. The event is a Pot Luck Dinner. The evening will end with selecting gifts from a Native American blanket. Bring a meal and an unwrapped gift to share. Children are especially welcome for the winter community celebration. The Jackson House is located on the school grounds. Attention: Lambertville
The Public Works Department will begin its third leaf collection pickup on Nov. 23. In the city, residents may bag leaves and place them at the normal garbage pickup place. Connaught Hill, Cottage Hill and Music Mountain residents may sweep them to the curb and the leaf vacuum will pick them up. The street sweeper will operate (weather permitting and excluding city holidays) through Dec. 10.
Dog Days calendar
The sixth Dog Days of Lambertville 2011 calendar, a community institution, has arrived in local shops. All profits from the sale of the calendars will also once again be donated to local animal charities. The calendar is available for purchase at the following establishments for $12. The Community Kitchen of Centenary UMC is conducting its "Share the Warmth" coat and winter clothing drive. Donations may be brought to Community Kitchen meals or deposited in the drop box in front of the church located at 108 N. Union St., Lambertville.
Basketball registration
Lambertville Basketball Association registration is open for the upcoming season. The LBA is a recreational league open to boys and girls in grades one-six. The league emphasizes player development, as well as, promotes sportsmanship and fun. The LBA is for all levels of players, even those who never played basketball before. Team sponsorship is only $200 per team and the sponsor’s logo or team name (you choose) will appear on the team’s uniform shirts. United Way seeks nominations
The United Way of Hunterdon County is seeking nominations for its "Community Volunteer of the Year" award. The individual chosen will be honored at the organization’s eighth annual "Celebrating Community Caring" recognition dinner to be held on May 6 at the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse. Volunteers needed to work with juveniles
The Superior Court of New Jersey, Vicinage 13 in Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties, seeks volunteers to serve on its Juvenile Conference Committee (JCC). The program is designed to refer juveniles charged with a first or second minor offense to their local JCC, which acts as a community-based arm of the Family Court. Volunteers are trained.
