MILLSTONE — The school district would like to gauge the community’s wants and needs in a new superintendent of schools.
Millstone seeks someone to lead its pre-K-8 grade district with three schools. The district has placed an ad with the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) and hopes to fill the position by July 2011. he Millstone Township School District seeks “a dynamic, transformative individual with a proven record of leadership,” according to its NJSBA ad.
The ad further calls for candidates who have the ability to lead a staff and community in partnership to new levels of educational excellence; extensive school financial acumen and understanding of the budgetary process with record of fiscal responsibility; solid foundations in curriculum and instruction, building management and special-needs programming; and knowledge, character and administrative skills to foster a positive, collaborative climate in which all staff and children can succeed.
The district has 1,600 students and a support staff of 208. The district sends 657 high school-aged students to Allentown High School in the Upper Freehold Regional School District.
The board will hold a community input session at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 in the Millstone Performing Arts Center to gather more information to set criteria for the background, training and experience necessary for the new superintendent of schools. Search consultant, Gwen H. Thornton, of the NJSBA, will explain the search procedure, as well as the roles played by the board, the staff and the public in the process. She will also discuss the calendar for the search, according to the school district.
D iscussion will center on the strengths, concerns, ongoing issues and future initiatives that the new superintendent will face. Information gathered, together with input from other focus groups, will be used to shape a variety of candidate review documents and the interview questions, according to the school district.
