The Hillsborough Dukes Junior Midget Football won their final home game of the regular season, 29-6, over Washington Rock.
Washington Rock stopped the Dukes on their first possession and after a tremendous 55-yard punt by Cam Adams, started their opening drive on their 20-yard line. Washington Rock drove the ball 80 yards and scored on a 30-yard rushing play, missing the extra point and going ahead 6-0.
On the Dukes’ next possession, Adams darted off the right side, behind the blocking of Davian WIlliams, Thomas Boland and James Ester for a touchdown run of 51 yards. Brandon Van Doren kicked the two-point conversion for an 8-6 Dukes lead. The Dukes then stopped Washington Rock on their ensuing possession, behind strong inside line play from John Grouss, Cole Lewis, Anthony Del Guercio and Nick Bongiovanni.
The Dukes took over on downs and drove down the field, propelled by a 40 reverse to Scot Levonaitis to the 13-yard line. A few plays later, Ed Trimpert scored on a QB keeper up the middle, with a strong push from center Sam Henderson and lineman Joshua Prince and WIlliams. Adams added an extra point for a 15-6 lead.
The Dukes stout defense again stopped the Washington Rock offense, as defensive ends Bolland and Adams contained the running attack and the ball was turned over to the Dukes offense. Levonaitis was sprung for a 35-yard run by the left side of the line, with key blocks by Prince, Zach Luceno and Mike Shapiro and followed up a few plays later with a 6-yard TD run and a 21-6 lead.
The Dukes scored again on their opening drive of the second half. Led by a key 25-yard run by Levonaitis, the series was capped by a 13-yard blast up the middle by Van Doren. The two-point conversion was good for a 29-6 Dukes lead.
The Dukes defense played an outstanding game, holding Washington Rock scoreless in the second half, led by the strong defensive backfield play of Trevor Medawar, Erio Rosario, Shapiro and Levonaitis, and aggressive linebackers Trimpert, Van Doren and Ryan Applegate.
