AROUND CRANBURY: Tree lighting, caroling to kick off holiday

By Lorraine Sedor, Staff Writer
The annual Christmas tree lighting, sponsored by the Woman’s Club of Cranbury, will be held Friday, Dec. 3, at Memorial Park.
There will be Christmas carol singing in the old firehouse led by “Mrs. K” and the children.
We hope the entire town will turn out for this festive event to kick off the holiday season.
Congratulations to the cast of the Cranbury Arts Council’s “A Christmas Carol,” who raised $300 for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen last weekend in front of Teddy’s Restaurant!
The kids had a great time dressing in the show costumes for a great cause!
The Cranbury Arts Council will present “A Christmas Carol” tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 4, at 1 and 7 p.m. at the Cranbury School, 23 N. Main St.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and seniors. Seniors are admitted free for the 1 p.m. matinee.
The cast consists of 36 children from grades two through eight and are members of Cranbury Arts Council’s Kids Theatre Company.
The script, adapted by the play’s director, Gary Charwin, is the classic Christmas tale with a comic twist. The choreography is by Debbie Rifkin, and the costume, set and props are coordinated by Noel Kinney and Jyll Purdy.
The Cranbury Lions Club will hold its 63rd annual pancake breakfast Sunday, Dec. 5, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Cranbury School cafeteria.
The cost is $8 per person; $4 for children under 10.
The Cranbury Lions will be selling poinsettias up to and including Dec. 5. Don’t forget to pick one up.
Santa will be visiting, and professional grade pictures with Santa will be available.
The Lioness will have its annual Christmas shop and bake sale as well.
Remember those less fortunate and bring gently used warm winter clothing, which the Lions are collecting Sunday at the breakfast.
The Lions also will be collecting for Toys for Tots through Dec. 16 at the post office and 1st Constitution bank locations.
The December exhibit at the Gourgaud Gallery will remind us all of the sultry days of spring and summer: “Cranbury Gardens VIII,” works from Art in the Park 2010.
The exhibit opens Sunday, Dec. 5, with a reception from 1 to 3 p.m. The show runs through Dec. 26, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the first, third and last Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.
   The gallery is closed holidays.
During the reception Sunday, visit with the artists who created works during the Art in the Park plein air series sponsored by the Cranbury Arts Council. Each month from May to October, a different Cranbury property hosted local artists who captured the scenes offered at the farms, gardens and historic homes in Cranbury. More than 35 artists participated in this year’s series.
The art on display is available for purchase and is perfect for holiday gift giving! The Cranbury Arts Council receives a 20 percent donation from all sales, which helps to continue its mission to promote and support the arts through its programs, classes, exhibits, summer art and technology camp and winter theater camp.
Come enjoy the music of the holiday season at the Cranbury Senior Center on Friday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. when the First Presbyterian Church Brass Choir performs.
The program is sure to put you in the holiday spirit!
It is that time of year again when Medicare choices need to be made.
The Cranbury Senior Center has a Medicare counselor available to answer your questions. There are times available Dec. 7, 14 and 21. Appointments are necessary and can be made by contacting Kristen Hamilton at 395-9931 or [email protected].
