Golf outing to aid trooper’s children

The municipalities of Howell and Jackson are joining together for a fundraiser to benefit the children of New Jersey State Police Trooper Marc Castellano. The golf outing event will be held on May 2 at the Eagle Oaks Golf Club in Farmingdale.

The golf outing is sponsored by the Howell Municipal Alliance and the Howell Optimist Club and is now in its 16th year. During each year’s event, a specific cause is supported.

Ralph Hoffman, director of the alliance, said a field of about 150 golfers is expected to participate in the May 2 event.

“We have a committee comprised of members of the Jackson and Howell police departments, as well as the State Troopers Fraternal Association of the New Jersey State Police,” Hoffman said.

The Howell High School golf team is expected to participate in the event and the Jackson Memorial High School golf team will be asked to participate, Hoffman said.

The organizing committee is currently accepting sponsorships, donations, prizes and tee reservations.

“The core of our sponsors have been with us for the past 15 years,” Hoffman said.

The all-day event will begin at 8:30 a.m. Players from the New York Giants and the New York Jets will join in the outing, as they have done in past years.

Hoffman has been organizing the golf outing for 11 years and said he expects this one to be bigger than previous events.

State Police Trooper Marc Castellano, 29, was a graduate of Jackson Memorial High School. He was a resident of Howell at the time of his death in the line of duty in June 2010. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and two young children.
