A Plainsboro man is fighting for his life following a motor vehicle accident on Route 535 last week.
A spokesman for Robert Wood University Hospital in New Brunswick said Anthony Couch, Jr., 43 of Plainsboro remained in critical condition Monday after emergency surgery during the weekend.
According to police, Couch was driving a 1990 Buick Lesabre south on Route 535 just beyond the intersection of Stults Road at 11:01 a.m. Friday when he apparently drifted into the northbound lanes and crashed into the rear of a tractor trailer.
The driver of the truck, Mohammad Dhillon, 50 of Bakersfield, California was not hurt in the collision, according to police spokesman Sgt. James Ryan.
The Monmouth Junction Fire Department worked for about 40 minutes to take off the roof of the car with its Jaws of Life to remove Mr. Couch from the wreckage, Sgt. Ryan said.
Sgt. Ryan said the area of Route 535 and Stults Road was closed for about two hours while the accident was investigated.
Police are still investigating the accident, and witnesses are asked to call Patrolman Gary Holsten at 732-329-4646.
