Wake up, Trenton, before N.J. loses more than horses

It has become quite apparent that Gov. Christie and all of the politicians in Trenton had a master plan to kill the horse racing in this state from the very beginning.

I attended all of the gaming summits, and all the promises some politicians made about saving jobs and both gaming industries were flat out lies. If the horsemen were to leave the Meadowlands today, a four-star casino/hotel would be built overnight. They have even admitted that the real estate at the Meadowlands is too valuable to be a racetrack.

Let’s face the facts. All of the politicians in Trenton are in the back pockets of the casinos, which by the way qualify for a makeover at the expense of taxpayers. The very casinos that are receiving special treatment are in the very same industry that is expanding and making a good profit on racinos and betting parlors in neighboring states.

If this state wants to play this kind of game, then I suggest all New Jersey horse farms and green acres give the money back, contact your lawyers and sue this state for killing off your income. Pave over all your open space and see how your property taxes jump.

Instead of sticking by his socalled moral GOP issues, our governor is heading down the road of no return. And, if I were a Republican, I would be distancing myself from a big fat liar.

It’s the same old politics and it is a crime how the horsemen are being treated. Maybe someone should follow the money as I have said from the beginning and find out just who is getting and taking what from our state economy. Installing slots at the world-class racetrack at the Meadowlands would not only be profitable for all involved but could very well lift this state out of a fiscal disaster.

Wake up, Trenton, before you lose more than just the horses. And, just for the record, once these jobs are gone, there are no more. It is a very special vocation, and thousands will be unemployable. Is this what New Jersey is aiming for anyway?
