In this podcast, Bryan, a modern-day Renaissance Man, discusses his path to becoming an award-winning children’s book author and illustrator.  Bryan is a child of the Great Depression, and entered The Cooper Union Art School based on merit.  He was drafted into World War II, returned back and completed his studies there before going to Columbia University for a degree in philosophy.  He was named a Fulbright Scholar and studied art in France and Germany, before returning to the United States and becoming a college professor.  He taught art at Queens College and Dartmouth College.  It was only upon his “retirement” that he turned his talents to writing children’s books and illustrating them.  His subjects typically encompass African-American stories.
“Ashley is a true inspiration,” states Michael Rivera, co-founder of Top-Tier Tutoring and host of this Ear on Careers episode.  He continues, “His passion and love of life literally radiates throughout everything he touches.  Children’s literature is so much richer thanks to Ashley’s storytelling and artistry.”
