School supports Wounded Warrior Project

PLUMSTED — The students and staff of the Dr. Gerald H. Woehr Elementary School have joined together to turn words into actions, raising more than $500 for the Wounded Warrior Project during the school’s Spirit Week.

School guidance counselor Alyse Reed and Nancy Forbes, a special education teacher, encouraged the students to save their change for the Wounded Warrior Project.

“With so many of our students coming from military families, this is a great way for the students to connect community service to their own lives,” Forbes said. “We are an extremely patriotic school, and the students were excited to be able to help in this way.”

The Wounded Warrior Project is a program that provides services and programs to aid American servicemen and servicewomen who have suffered injuries while serving the country, Reed said.

The Wounded Warrior Program offers programs such as counseling, rehabilitation and continued support to assist individuals as well as their families to help the military members adjust and transition to civilian life.

The Wounded Warrior Project is based in Jacksonville, Fla., but services are offered throughout the country, and there are many ways for interested individuals to get involved.

John Loosen, a member of the Wounded Warrior Program Board of Directors, attended a ceremony in which the school presented the Wounded Warrior Project with a check for $512 on Dec. 7.
