County officials and the Burlington County Chamber of Commerce issued an alert to businesses and residents that any telephone calls they receive promoting the "Burlington County Emergency Guide" have no connection to County government or the chamber.
"This is a scam, plain and simple," said Sheriff Jean Stanfield. "The caller is soliciting advertising for the ‘guide’ by falsely representing that she is working with the Sheriff’s Department and the Chamber."
Ms. Stanfield said that Burlington County Consumer Affairs has been contacted and is investigating. Those who receive calls are urged to contact Consumer Affairs at (609) 265-5054.
At last report, the Chamber had been alerted to four calls. The initial report was conveyed to the Chamber by a bank in Cherry Hill, which checked the phone number left by the caller, and discovered it was erroneous.
