At 12:30 p.m. Dec. 21, a police officer was dispatched to a Church Street residence for a report of a burglary.
The resident told the officer that she was upstairs when she heard banging that lasted about five minutes. She then heard a person inside the residence. The person went upstairs and pushed open her door. The man never said a word and quickly left the residence. No items were taken.
The unknown man gained entrance by pushing in the rear door, police said. He was described as a black male 35 to 45 years of age, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and 220 pounds with a dark complexion. The officer searched the surrounding area but did not see anyone matching the description given, police said.
Alvin Stephens, 39, of Union City, was stopped for a motor vehicle violation at 8:41 a.m. Dec. 17 and found to have a $100 warrant from Union City for failure to appear and a $165 warrant from Elizabeth for failure to appear, police said.
He was arrested, processed and was released on his own recognizance from both towns, police said. He also was issued a summons for being an unlicensed driver, driving while suspended and delaying traffic.
Robbinsville
A business on Robbinsville-Allentown Road reported an attempted burglary that occurred between 10 p.m. Dec. 26 and 10:52 a.m. Dec. 27.
It was reported that the door had been damaged by an unknown object. Nothing was reported missing from the business, police said. Damage to the door was estimated at $250.
Joan McConnell, 52, of South Olden Avenue, Hamilton, was charged Dec. 30 with possession of prescription legend drugs, driving while intoxicated and other offenses.
At about 12:15 a.m., a police patrol stopped the 2008 Nissan Altima Ms. McConnell was driving for obstructing traffic and failing to observe a traffic control device in the middle of the intersection of Route 130 and the Sharon Road bypass, police said. The officer then saw Ms. McConnell fumble through her belongings, police said. She failed a field sobriety test and was arrested, police said.
The investigation resulted in a search of the vehicle and the locating of a metal container holding several prescription pills, police said.
Ms. McConnell also was charged with careless driving, reckless driving, operating with drugs in possession or in a motor vehicle, obstructing traffic, failure to exhibit insurance card, driving an uninsured vehicle and failure to observe a traffic control device.
William Bonnette, 20, of Hillside Drive, Robbinsville, was charged Saturday with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and careless driving.
Patrol officers responded to the area of Route 33 about 11 p.m. for a reported motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, officers spoke to Mr. Bonnette, who had collided with a parked vehicle, police said. Mr. Bonnette had an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath, police said. He failed a field sobriety test and was arrested, police said.
