South Brunswick police are looking for a Franklin Township man they believe robbed and attempted to stab a cab driver, Sgt. James Ryan said.
Lee Capers, 25, of Franklin, allegedly robbed and tried to stab the driver after being driven from Dunellen to the Whispering Woods development on Route 1 in South Brunswick at 1:45 a.m. Dec. 20, according to police.
After the attempt, the unidentified driver fled the scene and called police, police said.
Also in December, Mr. Capers threatened to "slit the throat" of an unidentified Manville police officer, Sgt. Ryan said.
Sgt. Ryan said Mr. Capers has a "violent past," is a member of a gang and is "considered armed and dangerous."
Mr. Capers reportedly has a BHB tattoo on his neck, two tear drop tattoos under his right eye, is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds, police said.
He was previously convicted of stabbing a man after an argument in South Brunswick in 2008, Sgt. Ryan.
"He is known to frequent Franklin, North Brunswick and the Dunellen area," Sgt. Ryan said.
Mr. Capers also has a $50,000 warrant for an unrelated aggravated assault charge, Sgt. Ryan said.
Police are asking anybody with information on Mr. Capers’ location to call the South Brunswick police at 732-329-4646 or Detective Ron Seaman at 732-329-4000, ext. 7486.
