MILLSTONE — A blaze that tore through a Woodville Road home early Friday morning is believed to have been caused by an electric space heater, the Monmouth County fire marshal said.
”At this point it looks like an accidental fire that was caused by an electric space heater in the garage,” Fire Marshal Henry Stryker III said Tuesday.
Mr. Stryker said the home was occupied at the time of the fire but that he didn’t know how many people were there. He said he didn’t believe anyone was injured.
The home is “most likely” uninhabitable, he said.
The township Fire Department and First Aid Squad were dispatched to 179 Woodville Road at 1:39 a.m. for a report of a house fire. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire showing from the garage, extending into the attic and throughout the residence, according to the Fire Department.
Millstone firefighters, under the direction of Deputy Chief John Fiore, worked to extinguish the fire with multiple hose lines and also used the master stream of the department’s aerial apparatus to control the blaze, according to the Fire Department.
Mutual aid was received from the Manalapan Fire Company No. 1, Freehold Township Independent Fire Company No. 1, Monroe Fire District No. 2, Englishtown Fire Company and the Hope Fire Company. Additionally, the Adelphia Fire Company was requested for a rapid intervention team, a crew dedicated to helping firefighters in distress. The Millstone Firehouse was covered by one engine each from the Cassville Fire Department and the East Windsor Fire Company No. 2.
The fire was investigated by the Millstone Township Fire Prevention Bureau, Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office and the New Jersey State Police.
