Dominick Gambino tried to play the hero, but Joey Kolano edged him out.
Kolano scored 14 points and helped the Lakers rally for a 29-28 win over the 76ers in a Hopewell Valley YMCA Basketball League 5/6th-grade game. Gambino, who had 11 points, helped the Sixers rally from a six-point deficit to take the lead before Kolano rallied his troops. Michael Bozarth (5 points), Liam Heino and Kyle Mortorana (4 each) also aided the Lakers scoring, while the Sixers got help from Robbie Jastrebski (10).
The Heat rallied for a 35-22 win over the Nets behind Andrew Mormile (14), Chris Silva (13) and Billy Rudnik (6). Spencer Woods added two, while strong defense came from Amos Barnes, Brandon Zeller and Xavier Riley. Spencer Daniels, Max Wills and Nick Wills each had six points for the Nets, while Brian Karp and Matt Gibson had two each and Grant Kaufman and Justin Cooke contributed on defense.
The Knicks topped the Celtics, 34-14, behind . The Knicks were lead by Zack Bregenzer’s 14 points. Also scoring were Shivam Patel, David Nagley, Josh Alpern, Drew Reynhout, David Nagley, Michael Pham, Justin Passer and Noah Cappello, whose diving plays led to some easy baskets. The Celtics were led by Andrew Brancato along with Daniel Blumenthal, Alex Baron, Ryan Finnegan, Mike Saunders, Ian Airey, Charlie McMahon, Drew Brodine and Daniel Gewecke. GIRLS 5-6
The Wolverines took a 12-10 win over the Lions as Samantha Barnes and Kayla McInerney scored three points each, and Sarah Ouslander, Johanna Lange and Mary Buck scored two points each. Strong defense and rebounding came from Alex Babicki and Chelsea Barich. The Lions were led by Niamh Harkins and Olivia Herbert (4 each) and Naomi Kinnamon (2). Rebounding and defense came from Caroline Kelly, Natalie Kinnamon, Nina Genova and Jessica Miele. GIRLS 5-6
The Wildcats topped the Jay Hawks, 28-22, as Megan Radice had 14 points to lead all scorers. Jenny Costill and Maci Loughery each had four points, Krissy Costill added three while Lauren Murray and Elizabeth Brennan scored two each. Ruth Wyckoff and Hannah Greenzang were tough on defense. The Jay Hawks were led by Kelly Hoehn (9) and Kayla Harrison (7), while Camilla Collins (4) and Katie Modzelewski (2) also chipped in. BOYS 3-4
Patrick Mormile scored 18 points to lead the Tigers to a 35-20 victory over CRM Funds Pirates. Sean Dolan added eight and Jason Greenzang four for the Tigers, while Tony St John, Luke Hilliard and Kevin Murray also scored. For CRM, Max Caputo, Brendan Jackson and Wilson Daniels had six each and Liam May added two.
The Knights defeated the Lions, 28-12, as Joseph Rodriguez scored 11 points, Paul Pitera added seven, Trevor Radice six and Lawrence Mahle four. Kenny Tagliareni passed the ball well and played excellent defense along with Eric Osterman, Christian Zapata, Jonathan Nardozza and Nicco Ellis. Tommy Griffin led the Lions with six points, followed by Russell Ingling (4) and Jack Muio (2). Joel Pszczolkowski, Matt O’Boyle, Evan Kennelly, Ian Dersusha and Matthew Sing all played great defense.
The Wildcats moved to 2-0 by defeating the Runnin’ Rebels behind strong offensive play from Ari Nagelberg, Marc Porpora, Jim O’Connor, Luke McManimon, Joe Rebak, Jason Shephard, Zack Crow and Tom Mollis. Isaiah Poole, Alex Dumont, George Burditt and Ricky Eng all contributed to the Rebels offense, while Nathaniel Bredin, James Jackson, Chase Pratt and Shane Gross all hustled.
The Bulldogs beat out the Tarheels behind the play of Matt Nyce (14), Gavin Fowler (10) and Aiden Discordia (5), while Sam Fowler, Jack Haynes, Grayson Russo, Nate Stranieri and Henry McMahon had two points each. The Tarheels were led by Justin Holliday and Dylan Joyce (10 each). Jet Hieronymus, Alex Coco and Michael Moonan led the Tarheels defense. GIRLS 3-4
The Hawks defeated the Bulldogs 27-14. Anica Pinto , Ava Salmon, and Emma Redman led the defensive effort for the Hawks. Ava Tillman, Kathy Griffin, Emma Van Cleef, Samantha Miele, Adeline Danieluk, and Jaya Wetzel all contributed in the scoring column. The Bulldogs had balanced scoring form Elise Hawkey, Molly O’Brien, Tiffany Lonchar, Carly Sison and Riley Felsher.
Nicole Apai took a pass from Oriana Harkins near the foul line and hit a buzzer beater to give the Wolverines a 16-14 win over the Wildcats. Harkins had eight points, while Riley Finnegan (4) and Maddy Ellis (2) also tallied. Katee Kemether had eight points and hit a bucket with 15 seconds left to tie it for the Wildcats. Peyton Cefalone, Fiona McCaffrey and Carolyn McLaughlin each added two points.
