Lightning swims to win in opener

The Lawrence Lightning swim team recently opened its season with its first dual meet, and came away with a victory over the Princeton Pirates at Lawrence High School.
In the boys and girls individual medley, Angelina Franceschini (1:41.00.) led the girls 10/under age group followed by Rebecca McCormack and Maria Tkacz. Alexander Sukach led the 10/U boys (1.42.17) with stellar races by Matthew McChesney and Russell Knab.
The Campisi girls, Natalie (1:33.49) and Emma (1:34.35), had a 1-2 finish for the 12/U girls, while Patryk Wojnar (1:33.84) and Louis Augeri were 1-2 for the boys. Sarah Dauer (1:30.70) won the 15/U girls’ race with strong finishes by Sara Webber and Anne Kluempen. David Madigan (1:23.69) won the 15/U boys IM.
In freestyle 6/U, Eliza Meth (29.41) and Ford Collins (30.60) led the way in their events. Kathryn Yonan (21.76) placed first in 8/U girls with great races also turned in by Abigail Duff and Moriah Eley. In the 8/U boys, Jack Collins, Matthew DeMott and Dominic Madigan placed 1-2-3.
Francesca Iucolino (18.07), Anya Fitzgerald and Gillan Dauer dominated the 10/U girls’ event as did 10/U boys Hutch Collins, Ryan Sargent, Tristian Curbishley and Robert Lynch. In the 12/U 50 freestyle, Natasha Lessiohadi (35.36), Maghan Wilmott, Katelyn Takacs and Grace Denarski led the girls with Patryk Wojnar (34.59) winning for the boys. Isabella Franceschini and Amanda Brancato were 1-2 in the 15/U girls with David Madigan (31.94) winning the boys’ event.
The breaststroke races saw 8/U girls Abigail Danko, Shawne Hoehne and Ayla Rios enjoy fantastic races with Will Yuchmow (31.57) winning for the boys. Samantha Markiewicz (26.82), Sofia Centeno and Danielle DiMeglio swam well in the 10U girls race while the Sukach brothers, Alexander ( 21.51) and Andrew along with Devon Meth, had a 1-2-3 finish for the 10/U boys.
Natalie Jesseman, Katelyn Takacs and Maghan Wilmott dominated the 12/U group while Emma Campisi had the winning time of 49.07. Leading the 12/U boys were Jack Heinzel (48.42), Adrian Semeniuk, and Rohan Pahwa. Sarah Dauer (43.98) was victorious in the 15/U girls group while strong boys’ races came from Teddy Boronkay and Matthew Miloszar.
In the backstroke, Eliza Meth (33.19) and Grisham Varirani (36.31) were 6U winners. Kathryn Yonan (27.36) won for the 8U girls with strong finishes coming from Sofia Fitzgerald and Sonia Little. In 8/U boys races, Will Yuchmow (27.94) and Danny DeLongaig were 1-2. Molly Hart (23.20), Rebecca McCormack and Maria Tkacz led in the 10/U girls event, while the boys Andrew Sukach (24.42), Ean Dauer and Jonathan Lessiohadi finished1-2-3.
The 12/U girls were dominated by Natasha Lessiohadi (42.58), Abigail Bergstrom and Abby Smith, while the boys’ Jack Heinzel, Andon Parascando and Adrian Semeniuk also had great races. Sara Webber (43.51) won the 15/U girls while Asia Wirkijowski and Daryl Hoehne were stellar. Justin Thomas led the 15/U boys with a winning time of 42.75.
In the butterfly, 8/U girls Abigail Danko (26.67), Moriah Eley and Abigail Duff finished strong while Jack Collins (23.97), David Bhavsar, Jacob Stout and Justin Knab had fantastic races for the boys. Francesca Iucolino (19.38) and Angelina Franceschini were 1-2 for the 10/U girls, and Hutch Collins (18.50) led the 10/U boys followed by Tristan Curbishley, Jonathan Lessiohadi and Robert Lynch.
Katie Smith (44.71), Natalie Jesseman and Abigail Bergstrom all swam well for the 12/U girls, followed by fantastic swims by Louis Augeri (43.06) and Andon Parascando for the boys. The Lightning finished strong in the 15/U behind Isabella Franceschini and Gwyneth Curbishley for the girls and Billy McBride for the boys.
Lawrence took first in all the freestyle relays to secure the win.
