At the end of 2010, Hopewell Valley High girls soccer players Lori Genovesi and Whitney Bickford were cited for their outstanding soccer ability. At the start of 2011, they are being honored for their combined talents on the field and in the classroom.
Genovesi was one of 14 defenders named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Girls High School Scholar All-America Team, while Bickford was one of six midfielders named to the same team.
Both will be recognized at the All-America Luncheon at the Hilton Baltimore Hotel on Jan. 15, as part of the 2011 NSCAA Convention. While there, Genovesi will receive her NSCAA All-America award and Bickford her Regional All-America award.
"It was great to coach two players who excelled not only in the classroom, but on the soccer field," Bulldogs coach John McGinley said. "They are role models for their school and community. Their achievements on the field as four-year varsity players, as well as winning a state championship and two Central Jersey championships speak for themselves.
"Getting recognized nationally for their play on the field, and in success classroom, is a credit to their hard work as well as support of their families."
