Township police were out on extra patrols during the holiday season to ensure the safety of motorists passing through and residing in the township, thanks to a state grant.
The extra holiday patrols resulted in eight driving while intoxicated arrests and other tickets for motorists, Sgt. James Ryan said.
A $5,000 grant from the State of New Jersey paid for extended hours officers were given Dec. 6 through Jan. 2, Sgt. James Ryan said.
”The increased efforts made this a safe holiday for all those who traveled our roadways”, said South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka.
A total of 183 summonses were issued during the increased patrols, Sgt. Ryan said.
Police also arrested one person on a fugitive warrant, four drivers were ticketed for having suspended licenses, and five vehicles were found to be uninsured, Sgt. Ryan said.
Other summonses were issued for speeding, not wearing a seat belt, reckless driving, and various equipment violations such as broken or no taillight or head light, Sgt. Ryan said.
The grant funded a total of 100 more officer hours that were scheduled in blocks of four to five hours, Sgt. Ryan said.
