Diocese of Metuchen offers Bible Scripture series for Catholics

By Joanne Ward
PISCATAWAY – The Diocese of Metuchen will hold the fourth of its seven-session faith formation series entitled, “The Bible: Root of our Catholic Faith,” on Thursday, January 27 beginning at 7 p.m. Sponsored by the Diocesan Office of Catechesis, the series is designed to help Catholics better understand their biblical foundations and to explore Catholic beliefs, as found in – or as “rooted in” – Scripture.
The fourth session of the series will focus on What the Bible Says About Suffering and Death.  Father Sean Winters, coordinator of hospital chaplains for the diocesan Office of Hospital Chaplaincy and chaplain at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy, will present the session. A chaplain for the past 24 years, Father Winters has served in three different hospitals in the diocese. His talk, as well as the others in the series, will be presented in the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center, 146 Metlars Lane, Piscataway.
Upcoming topics include: What the Bible Says About Moral Living and What the Bible Says About Women. The series will end with an experience of different ways to pray with scripture.
The program is free and is open to all who want to know more about biblical tradition as it relates to Bible Scripture. It is especially intended as a resource for those who are involved in their parish ministries including: deacons, RCIA candidates and sponsors, evangelization and adult faith formation teams, catechists and parish catechetical leaders, Catholic school teachers, young adults, youth ministers, pastoral council members and liturgical ministers. Participants are not required to attend all sessions.
