East Brunswick resident Michael G. Kesler will introduce his book, “Shards of War — Fleeing To & From Uzbekistan” on Jan. 16 at 9:30 a.m. at Congregation Neve Shalom, 250 Grove Ave. in Metuchen.
He will also be speaking about the book on March 5 at 5 p.m. at Highland Park Conservative Temple, South Third Avenue and Brenner Street, Highland Park.
The book tells a gripping story of the author and his sister as teens fleeing the German armies in 1941, and their wartime struggles to survive in the Soviet Union. Returning home at war’s end and finding 8,000 Jews in mass graves, they make their way to a displaced persons’ camp and later to the U.S.
Kesler, a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and New York University, has also edited and published “Grit — A Pediatrician’s Odyssey from a Soviet Camp to Harvard,” by Regina Kesler.
