The Hopewell Township police and Mercer County’s Serious Crash Response Team are investigating a one-car crash that occurred on Carter Road Saturday morning.
Township Lt. Lance Maloney said a silver 2004 Toyota Corolla, driven by Mackenzie Kimmel, 23, of Deere Run Court, Pennington, was traveling south on Carter Road, just south of Bayberry Road, at approximately 9:47 a.m.
As Ms. Kimmel was negotiating a slight curve, her car started to slide across the snow-covered roadway, the lieutenant said. Ms. Kimmel’s car then drifted off the roadway and struck a utility pole on the southbound side of the roadway.
She was extricated from the car by personnel from the Hopewell Fire Department and Pennington Fire Company and was transported to the Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton by the Hopewell Emergency Medical Unit. Ms. Kimmel was admitted for treatment of a head injury. As of Tuesday evening, according to police, she was still hospitalized.
Carter Road between Elm Ridge and Bayberry roads was closed for approximately an hour and a half.
The crash remains under investigation by the Hopewell Township Police Department and the Mercer County prosecutor’s office Serious Collision Response Team.
