. As Hopewell Borough representative and charter member of the Hopewell Valley Senior Advisory Board, Virginia Silliphant, among other activities, created and distributed a Hopewell Borough senior survey. The responses demonstrated a strong desire for a senior center and for a wide variety of programs to meet their interests.
In addition, the survey attracted Ian Burrows, who presented a course in archaeology as part of senior learning program, "Explorations."
Joel May is probably best known by many as the presenter of a monthly series of computer presentations at the Hopewell Township Branch of the Mercer County Library. He also is the creator of the Hopewell Valley Senior Foundation (www.hvseniors.org). Mr. May was the secretary of the HVSAB and the treasurer of the HVSF. He also taught a medical ethics course in the "Explorations" program.
Helen Lee, although not a member of the HVSAB, worked on many projects. Ms. Lee also is a charter member of the HVSF.
"It has been rewarding and a joy to work with these dedicated people," said Larry Mansier, chairman of the HVSAB. "We all feel that they are part of our family. They may move on, but we will never forget them, and we will certainly miss them."
Bill Farmer, chairman of the HVSF, echoed Mr. Mansier’s words and added, "We’ll make sure that you will be there when the new senior center is finally built."
Abigail Waugh, Senior Services coordinator, thanked the three for their always willing support.
