New Jersey high school students have an opportunity to prove their brain power by competing in the 2011 Central New Jersey Regional Brain Bee. The contest, which is open to all New Jersey high school students in grades nine through 12, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Jan. 29 at UMDNJRobertWood Johnson Medical School, 675 Hoes Lane, Piscataway. Modeled after a traditional spelling bee, the Brain Bee is a live question and answer competition in which students are quizzed about the human brain and central nervous system. There is no cost to participate.
The contest, organized by the Society for Neuroscience, aims to motivate young people to learn about the brain, capture their imagination and inspire them to pursue careers in brain-related fields.
The top three finishers will receive cash prizes and the first place winner will receive an expense-paid trip for two to compete in the National Brain Bee Competition at the University of Maryland in Baltimore March 14-20.
All competition questions are derived from the book “Brain Facts,” published by the Society for Neuroscience, which can be downloaded for at www.sfn.org.
