Lambertville and West Amwell

   Lambertville City police reported:
   — Kathryn Smith, 25, of Hartsville, Pa., was taken into custody for DUI on Jan. 8 as a result of a motor vehicle stop. Officer Michael Gramlich stopped Ms. Smith on Route 29 at 2 a.m. after she was reportedly seen tailgating another vehicle. After further investigation, it was determined that Ms. Smith was driving while under the influence of alcohol. She was charged with DUI, reckless driving and following too closely. She was later released with a pending court date.
   — On Dec. 30, first responders were called to the Delaware & Raritan Canal to investigate a report of a dog that had fallen through the ice. A yellow Labrador was found trapped in the ice with only its head and one paw sticking out of the ice.
   Fire Chief Lester Myers and Officer Anthony Memolo pulled the dog to safety and reunited the dog with its owner. The animal had apparently been running, off of its leash, with its owner on the canal path when it ventured onto the ice before it gave way.
   West Amwell Township police reported:
   — On Jan. 4 at 2:48 a.m., police investigated a one-vehicle crash on Route 202 near the Route 179 exit. Brendan Lamonte, 23, of Flemington was driving north, lost control of his vehicle as he swerved around several deer in the roadway, drove off the travel portion of the roadway and hit several trees. Mr. Lamonte was treated at the scene for minor abrasions and due to airbag deployment by the Amwell Valley Ambulance Corps. He declined to be transported to a medical facility for further treatment. The vehicle was towed from the scene, No summonses were issued by Patrolman Anthony Goccia, who investigated.
   — On Jan. 5 at 6:30 p.m., police investigated a car/deer crash on Brunswick Pike (Route 518) near Hewitt Road. Laura Beaumont, 59, of West Amwell was driving east when her vehicle struck the deer. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was driven from the scene after a report was taken by Patrolman Dennis Kendig.
   — On Jan. 8 at 4:47 p.m., police investigated a one-vehicle crash with injuries on Route 202 at the Route 179 off ramp. Shane Kerwick, 19, of Hatfield, Pa., was driving north when he lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway, striking a light post/standard. Mr. Kerwick was extricated from his vehicle through a joint effort of Amwell Valley Fire/Rescue and West Amwell Fire/Rescue. He was trapped for approximately 30 minutes. He was transported via the Amwell Valley Ambulance Corps. to Helene Fuld Medical Center in Trenton with upper body and shoulder area trauma. Patrolman Edward Skillman issued the driver a summons for careless driving.
   — On Jan. 10 at 8:45 a.m., police went to the ESC School on Route 179 regarding an assault on a staff member. Lt. Stephen J. Bartzak and Patrolman Kendig took a 15-year-old Trenton boy into custody for allegedly assaulting a woman staff member. He was charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct, processed and released to a guardian.
