The Hopewell Valley U11 boys travel basketball team emerged from the holiday break in resounding fashion on Saturday and Sunday wins over Hamilton (49-22) and Bucks County (31-29).
Against Hamilton, Robby Wiley had a season-high 24 points with eight rebounds. Cole Hare (5 points) added 10 rebounds and three steals. Also contributing were Patrick Higgins (6 points, 5 assists), Alex Mummert (4 points, 4 boards, 2 assists), Max DeLos Santos (4 points), Andy Blake (4 points, 5 boards), Max Brass (2 points), Dominic Zangrilli (2 points, 6 boards), Connor Murphy (3 boards, 2 blocks) and Jack Demareski (4 boards, 1 steal).
Against Bucks County, DeLos Santos, Zangrilli, Demareski, Murphy and Blake came off the bench midway through the second half to pick up the defensive intensity and hold off a Mavericks’ comeback attempt. Brass, Hare, Mummert, Higgins and Wiley took control down the stretch.
The U12 Hawks moved to 3-0 by taking a 50-35 win over North Hunterdon. Every player scored, led by Cameron Cane (9 points, 9 rebounds), Zach Bregenzer (8 points) and Kevin Crow (7). Jack Amaral and John O’Connor contributed six points apiece, while Andrew Mormile had 11 rebounds and Chase Fleming added nine. Austin Oldfield, Spencer Daniels and Joey Kolano each had three assists.
The 7th-grade boys fell to unbeaten Lawrence, 37-29, in Central Jersey Youth League play. Jeff Wiley had 13 points and six rebounds, Justin Jantomo added seven points and four steals and Jeff Baxter added six points. Greg Gasparro (3 points, 3 steals) and Austin Hawkins (3 rebounds) also contributed. Forrest Swisher, Jon Ward and Tyler Krampf also contributed.
