Science & Discovery Night: The Lawrenceville Elementary School PTO will host Science & Discovery Night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lawrenceville Elementary School, 40 Craven Lane. Children will have the opportunity to explore with hands-on activities and demonstrations led by local scientists. The Mercer County Wildlife Center will bring two animals native to New Jersey and will discuss their rehabilitation and how children can help keep wild animals in New Jersey safe. Also, Ken Kramer of Spaceflight magazine and The Planetary Society will be presenting information on the Mars Rover in 3D in the media center. In addition, members of the Amateur Astronomers Association of Princeton will be available to view the night sky with students. Admission is $5 per child, free for adults and children under 3. Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic: January is dog license renewal month for Lawrence Township residents. Any dog over the age of seven months is required by law to be licensed. According to New Jersey law, to obtain your dog’s license, their rabies immunizations must be valid for the entire licensing year. Should your dog’s rabies certificate expire anytime between January 2011 and October 31, 2011, you will be required to revaccinate your dog prior to obtaining their 2011 dog license. The Lawrence Township Health Department will be holding a Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic for all dogs over the age of 3 months from 10 a.m. to noon at the New Jersey National Guard Armory, Eggert Crossing Road, rain or shine. All pets must be accompanied by an adult. All pets must be leashed or in suitable carriers. Any questions, call the Lawrence Township Animal Control Officer at 609-844-7092. Ikebana Demonstration: Ayako Fukuhara, a certified Ikebana instructor who has been trained in the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, will be demonstrating this Japanese art of flower arrangement. Ikebana is a disciplined art form in which the arrangement is a living thing where nature and humanity are brought together and is the creative expression within certain rules of construction. Its materials are living branches, leaves, grasses, and blossoms. 1 p.m. Free. Lawrence library.
Port Mercer Bridge Tender’s House: Winter open house, presented by Lawrence Historical Society. Learn about the canal’s past from the D&R Canal State Park’s historian and experience the 19th century first hand. Off the Page: Try out your acting chops (or indulge your secret passion) to play one of the great characters from dramatic literature or contemporary comedy – without the threat of performing in front of a live audience. Off the Page will "cast" and read a play aloud, seated around a table, as actors and production teams typically do at the first rehearsal of a play. Michael Graves art exhibit: The Rider University Art Gallery will present an exhibit of rarely seen paintings by architect and designer Michael Graves through Feb. 27.
