NEW HOPE: Local man wants to be ‘Most Recognizable Man in America’

By Linda Seida, Staff Writer
NEW HOPE — Keith Fenimore is a New Hope native who wants the world to know his name.
He wants fame, but not for doing anything specific. He wants to become the “Most Recognizable Man in America.” Not a celebrity, not a star, just recognizable.
It’s a sort of social experiment. Mr. Fenimore, who now lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., calls it a “commentary on our information culture.”
”I have long been enthralled, enamored and sometimes perplexed by what makes news, how a buzz is created and both the complexity and simplicity of modern day communication exchange,” he said.
He says on his website that he will create a “media tornado,” building upon an initial “launch article” to stir interest in his quest and achieve his goal. He’s looking for the domino effect to fame, and in our world of technology and high-speed communication, he thinks he can do it.
So far, he’s off to a good start. Articles have appeared in a number of regional publications.
For The Beacon, it started with a letter from his mom. She sent information from her son:
”I’ll be creating a buzz among the media outlets and social networks that will test the power-of-press and the people. In theory, and in success, I will be catapulted from complete obscurity to ‘the Most Recognizable Man in America.’ The success or failure of my experiment will lie squarely on my ability to garner press attention on nothing more than the mission to get press attention in order to become recognizable. Will I succeed, or fall flat on my unrecognizable face?”
There is an old photograph on his website, published years ago in The Beacon, from his elementary school days when he raised hundreds of dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He also recalls early civic action: when the borough canceled Halloween one year, he started a petition and handed it to the mayor, getting Halloween reinstated with an 8 p.m. curfew.
After graduating form Old Dominion University with a degree in marketing, Mr. Fenimore spent 15 years in Los Angeles. He has worked as a senior producer, writer and director for Howard Stern, among other writing and media jobs. He says he’s married to a “sexy and smart woman.” They have a son and two dogs.
