The recipient of the 2011 Business of the Year Award is The Pennington School, located on West Delaware Avenue.
A Pennington Economic Development Commission spokesman said The Pennington School was chosen from among several worthy nominees. The purpose of the award is "to recognize and promote successful borough businesses that contribute to the quality of life in the community." The EDC will present a mayor’s proclamation to Penny Townsend, Head of School, at a special reception to be held at Sun National Bank, North Main Street, on Jan. 26 from 6-8 p.m. Residents and business owners are welcome to attend.
"The Pennington School has a long tradition of community involvement and support of our local economy," said Ron Roveda, co-chairman of the Pennington EDC.
"We are very fortunate to have the school as the centerpiece of our community," added EDC Co-chairwoman Rachel Donington Torpey. "They are a good neighbor and a strong business leader."
When The Pennington School opened its doors in 1838 in downtown Pennington, the school was housed in one building and enrolled three students under the tutelage of one teacher.
Currently, the school sits on a 54-acre campus and enrollment has grown to over 475 students in grades six-12.
The Pennington School also will be recognized with a permanent plaque hanging in Borough Hall.
