The Somerset Valley YMCA will be kicking off its 2011 Strong Kids Campaign at the Somerville Family YMCA on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m.
The six-week campaign will look to raise $200,000 towards the Somerset Valley YMCA’s goal of $300,000 for 2011.
Peter Schoberl of Community First Bank, Somerset, and Stephen Emr of Team Capital Bank, Somerville, are returning as co-chairmen for the 2011 campaign.
"Through the Y, thousands of youth are learning the values and positive behaviors and exploring their unique talents and interests while building lasting relationships," Mr. Schoberl said. "But we can’t do it without the support of the community.
"For many kids, going to summer camp is the chance of a lifetime," Mr. Emr said. "I’m happy to be making a positive and enduring impact right in our own neighborhood."
The campaign seeks donations from individuals, corporations and foundations to be able to continue to provide access to Y programming to children, teens and families who would otherwise be unable to pay. Every day, the Y works side by side with the community to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
At the Y, no child, family or adult is turned away.
Members and community volunteers hope to raise funds to provide membership assistance and scholarships to programs like summer camp, child care, and teen and senior activities in Somerset County.
