CRANBURY — Committeeman Dan Mulligan will be the first Township Committee liaison to the Scouts.
His role as liaison will be to assist Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts with any projects they do involving the township.
”Scouting is something I did as a child,” Mr. Mulligan said.
He was a Scout from about ages 7 to 14, and his son, Dan Mulligan IV, 9, is now a Scout, he said.
Now that Mr. Mulligan is with the Township Committee, working with the Scouts is something he said he’ll enjoy doing.
Many Scouts come to the town with plans to do or improve something that would benefit the Cranbury community, but, for legal reasons, the Township Committee often has to intervene. The task of the committee liaison will be to help the Scout with all necessary paperwork and to get in touch with the right people.
”Scouts do great things for the community,” Mr. Mulligan said. “The last thing we want are roadblocks.”
Some recent projects Scouts have completed are a 5K race on Cranbury Day in September, organized by Eagle Scout Greg Carroll, to raise funds for the Helene Cody Foundation; the cleaning out of the Cranbury Preserve part of the West property by Eagle Scout Peter Sockler Jr.; and the construction of a two-lane 100-meter cinder track for the Cranbury School, a project organized by Eagle Scout Michael Brennan.
