‘The Fabric of Light and All That Jazz’
If you’ve never had the fortune to witness a "Marmalade Sunset," mark your calendars. Direct from Manhattan’s NOHO Gallery in Chelsea, Verde Art Gallery in Kingston is showcasing the work of fiber and textile artist Ludmila Aristova. The Russian native, a graduate of the Moscow Textile Institute, now a U.S. citizen, has evolved from fashion designer to artistic force – tapping the power of fabric to explore the wonder of light.
Sharing the gallery space are Mitch Seidel’s black-and-white prints of some of the most accomplished jazz musicians of our time. Mr. Seidel, a documentary photographer, writer, and journalist who shot covers for "Downbeat" Magazine, has been contributing to "Jazz Times" for 30 years.
"Known for taking spontaneous, distinctive, unposed portraits, Mr. Seidel produces images that forsake the celebrity machine imagery of the day … When Seidel does capture a jazz musician on stage, he does it with style and composition that lends itself to the mood of the music itself."
The show opens with a reception for the artists from 3 to 5 p.m. and runs through Feb. 23.
The Verde Art Gallery is located at 4492 Route 27, Kingston, next to Eno Terra Restauran, alongside the D&R Canal. For more information, call 609-865-5812 or write to [email protected].
