Westfield Diner Makes You Feel Like Home – But With More Choices

Landmark Jersey Diner Serves Comfort Food All The Time
WESTFIELD n Close your eyes and think of home.
The smells of a delicious home-cooked meal greet you as you enter.
Whatever it is, you know it was made with great care and will taste delicious.
But the downside of home is reality. Dinner was what Mom made. Knowing your preferences, you hoped she aimed for what you were craving. But if she missed, dinner was dinner. There were no substitutions.
You could either eat dinner or go hungry. Actually, going hungry was not an option.
That’s the advantage of The Westfield Diner (WestfieldDiner.net). The food reminds you of home, but the choices are endless. And they serve everything any time.
You want French toast at 10 p.m., they’ll make it. You want a Greek salad at 7 a.m., they do it for you.
“The dedication of the customers and staff is what makes the diner an exception,” an online reviewer wrote. “It is where families come to meet others and everyone gets to know one another.”
After more than 28 years, the owners of The Westfield Diner, 309 North Avenue East,
have gotten right.
They know how to cook quality food in a comfortable environment and give customers good value for their dollar. In New Jersey, where diners are something special, The Westfield Diner is among the best.
This is the home of comfort food like chicken soup, chicken pot pie, Hungarian goulash, pancakes, stuffed peppers, meat loaf, beef stew, stuffed cabbage and so much more.
Some of those who eat there are second generation customers. They have regulars who visit the diner several times a week.
One online reviewer said she has “learned to appreciate this place for their huge bowls of soup and awesome breakfast menu. They had at least three to four different soups to choose from whenever I’ve gone n which is awesome if you are a soup lover such as myself. The bowls are larger than what other diners in Jersey have had to offer me n and they’re about four bucks tops.”
“This is the place to be!” another reviewer wrote. “The diner has a nice interior, located in the center of town, great service and great prices. The food is very good and the atmosphere is so friendly! The best part about the diner is that it’s open until 2 a.m. on weekend nights. Everyone gathers there after a movie or a play!”
The restaurant’s hours are Sunday-Thursday 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. On Friday and Saturday, the diner is open from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m.
The menu is vast. There’s more than a dozen different salads plus platters, several dozen sandwiches (including a long list of burgers), kabobs (chicken, beef, seafood and vegetable), meats of all kinds, fried (shrimp, chicken clams or fish and chips) entrees in the basket, a large variety of seafood (broiled, stuffed or fried), numerous hot breakfast options (pancakes, French toast, Belgian waffles) in several different combinations, triple-decker sandwiches, multi-grain paninis, wraps, an entire dinner sauté menu and a seemingly endless list of desserts made in the Westfield Diner’s own kitchen.
Every Tuesday is Greek Night with two kinds of baked lamb, a stuffed pepper and tomato combo, broiled chicken oreganato, broiled calamari oreganato, spanakopita (a spinach pie), mousska (an eggplant, potato and chopped meat casserole), vegetable kabob, roast leg of lamb, broiled lamb chops, baked pastichio (layered ziti and chopped meat, a gyro platter, beef kabob, shrimp santorini, trio classico (spinach pie, moussaka and pastichio) and pan fried scrod.
Every Wednesday is Italian Night with grilled chicken over penne with vodka sauce or pesto sauce; cavatelli, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes, linguini with red or white clam sauce, chicken balsamico, Italian mixed grill, baked rigatoni, Italian style pork chops, eggplant parmigiana, crab cakes, meatballs parmigiana, cheese tortellini Alfredo, chicken primavera, spaghetti carbonara, cheese ravioli parmigiana, penne parmigiana, stuffed shells, Italian sausage & chicken skewer over rice, calamari or mussels marinara and mixed greens marinara. The price for Italian Night is $11.95 for soup, salad, an entrée and dessert.
Everything is available for takeout. And the bakery will make its delicious desserts for special occasions.
“We love what we do here,” said Jimmy Elenis, one of the owners of The Westfield Diner. “And we hope that love comes through in every dish we serve. Feeding our friends and family is a special task. We hope we can make them proud of us every day.”
