HILLSBOROUGH: Gene Robbins named Beacon editor

   Gene Robbins, a veteran New Jersey newspaper journalist, has been named managing editor of the Hillsborough Beacon. He began his new duties Jan. 20.
   ”We are very pleased that Gene Robbins has joined Packet Publications,” said Aubrey Huston, group editor. “His experience and ability will be wonderful assets in helping us serve the Hillsborough community.”
   Mr. Robbins spent much of the past decade at the Hunterdon County Democrat, the state’s largest weekly paper, where he served as editorial page editor and senior reporter/editor.
   Prior to that he spent about 20 years as a weekly newspaper editor in suburban and rural western New Jersey, where he managed staffs of reporters and photographers for four award-winning community newspapers.
   He has won numerous awards for interpretive news, editorials, headlines, features and layout.
