The Manville Senior Citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the VFW located on Washington Avenue. The club is open to new members who are residents of Manville, age 60 or older, and age 55 if disabled.
Canned goods or non-perishable food items will continue to be collected before each meeting as well as soup labels. Food donations are needed by the Food Bank.
Blood pressure screening is held before the beginning of each meeting.
Patty Zamorski, Manville Borough treasurer and deputy clerk, installed the new officers for 2011. Congratulations and success to all in the coming year.
Financial Secretary Sally Kennedy gave her year-end membership report as did Second Vice President Josephine Pschar on the Atlantic City trips. Donna Pierrot still has some openings for the 2011 trips. See her at the meeting or contact her for further information or to sign up. The next meeting will be Feb. 10.
At the November meeting Borough Administrator Gary Garwacke discussed the new Global Connect phone system which was used to alert the town for emergencies or necessary information for the residents. I have to say it worked out quite well with the recent snowstorms. The Department of Public Work informed the residents of the snow removal rules: getting cars off the road, clearing your sidewalks and not to throw snow in the road. It made for a much better outcome for everyone. Good job, Department of Works and the borough for the robo calls.
