SPRINGFIELD The Board of Education is trying something new in attempts to get the community involved in communication with the elementary school.
”A point was brought up at the Technology Committee meeting about the fact that within our school community we communicate fairly well,” interim Superintendent Joseph Miller said Jan. 18. “We feel we communicate really well with our school community, but that only accounts for about one-third or half of the community. The other two-thirds or half of the community don’t have children in the school so we don’t really have a way of communicating with them.”
After bringing the concern to the attention of the committee, the members decided to work with the company that controls the school website’s template to get an invitation on the website inviting people from the community to join a community e-mail.
”We put an invitation on our website for people outside of the school community to register their e-mail to our website to form a nonschool community group,” Mr. Miller said. “We can send our monthly newsletters. We can send information about the future options of the district. We can send information about the budget proposal and the upcoming school board election.”
Mr. Miller said he hopes this is a step forward in opening the lines of communication throughout the community.
”The actual website has been restructured to allow for this but we need to get out to the community that we’re inviting nonschool community people to come onto our website to register and receive this information.”
