BASKING RIDGE – The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road has scheduled the following naturalist-led programs for children and adults.
The Environmental Education Center provides many educational programs for children and adults year around. Register online at www.somersetcountyparks.org or call 908-766-2489. Advance payment is required.
Track That! – Monday, Jan. 31, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will join a naturalist on a short hike in the Great Swamp to locate tracks and discover what animals travel the paths. The cost is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child.
Tree House Gang – Tuesday, Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22 from 12:45 to 3:15 p.m.
Children ages 3 to 5 will be educated at these afternoon science and nature classes. The program will include hikes, hands-on activities, interaction with live animals and crafts. The cost is $65 per person.
Groundhogs Galore! – Wednesday, Feb. 2, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will learn the secrets of the groundhog and search for his home to locate his shadow. The cost is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child.
Animal Legends – Thursday, Feb. 3, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Children ages 4 to 6 will hear stories and make crafts that will help to understand the difference between fact and fable. The theme is mice. The cost is $10 per person
Nature Through a Child’s Eye – Daily through Sunday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except holidays.
The entire family can see the annual environment and nature art show featuring works from children from kindergarten through grade six in Somerset County schools. Admission is free.
