EAST BRUNSWICK — Police responded to Route 18 south at Icker Avenue at 1:09 p.m. Jan. 19.
A southbound 2010 Chevrolet pickup was proceeding south and attempting to make a right onto IckerAvenue when it was struck from the rear by a 2009 Nissan Sedan, according to police. The collision caused the pickup to spin and subsequently roll over onto its driver side, blocking two lanes of the southbound traffic.
The driver of the pickup, Randall Beetz of Old Bridge, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Nissan, Kimberly Niedermeier of Woodbridge, was issued a summons for careless driving.
Traffic was detoured around the accident scene and all lanes of the highway were reopened within an hour.
East Brunswick Patrolman David Valez investigated the accident. The East Brunswick Independent Fire Co. and Rescue Squad also responded.
